Dear Readers
This month I had an email from Robert with a question about his RAM. He says “On a technical matter, do you know how to identify the RAM of my Dell laptop?”. This is surprisingly easy, but only if you know where to look in the first place. Personally, I use www.mrmemory.co.uk and then follow the steps on screen to identify the correct RAM for the device I am looking at. Either clicking on the “Scan MyPC” icon or if you know the make and model of the laptop, you can select the options and follow the prompts. I hope that helps Robert.
You may recall from a previous article, I was suffering from an outage of internet. The problem got worse, and, in the end, I decided it was time to leave the company I was with and have now changed to “O2 Fibra Optica”. So far, I am very impressed, both with the service, but also the speed. I was 100mbps, and now I am 300mbps. I did hit one problem though which was the number of devices I have and the router I was issued. The router is cheap and functional for up to 20 devices which would be fine for a normal household. However, my house anything from normal. Between smart lights, IP cameras, smart plugs and phones etc, we have almost 50 devices. This was causing issues with devices not being able to connect. A huge problem for our doorbell and alarm (Ring Video doorbell and Ring Alarm). The solution…I have purchased the TP-Link Deco mesh system. Wow! So easy to connect and setup. Not only does it deliver the speed effortlessly, it can handle upto 100 devices at a time. What is Mesh? In short it consists of a master repeater that connects directñy to your exsisting router. It then bro0adcasts a signal. A second device wirelessly connects to the master repeater and broadcasts a signal, and repeat for additional repeaters. Why is it so different? Unlike normal repeaters that create a new different network, the Mesh creates one single network across all repeaters. There is a 2 part and 3 part system but you can add many more repeaters for longer houses or areas where you need to expand the signal. I went for the 3 part system. The master in the lounge, 1 in the far bedroom, and 1 outside in the garden. Now I have massively improved signal coverage, no signal loss in the extreme edges of the house, and everything is connected and working. Price was it was more than I wanted to pay but given the hugely improved internet service I thought it best to do it all at once. You can find it on amazon by looking for tp link deco S4. Less than 100 GBP, and worth every penny.
